Make a Tape Car Race Track

Tape is really a wonderful thing.  My daughter has gone through more tape than I want to remember.  Investing in some color masking tape is wonderful for creating an instant activity for your kids.

My daughter made this race track for her cars this morning.  It's super easy to do in a pinch when you have a play date or on a rainy day.  For younger children, I recommend doing it for them when they are napping.  Then they can just play with the cars without messing with the sticky tape.  Older children will probably have more fun creating it and making their own little city.  Also, you may want to do it in a tucked away corner of your home, especially if the children want it to stay for a while.  Don't forget to talk about geometric shapes when you are building together.

I am helping my daughter make a diner for the cars to eat at to add to our metropolitan car track.  Tonight her little elf will be driving one of the cars to surprise her in the morning #TOOFUN!!

Make a Doll House out of a Cardboard Box

Who knew? Yes, it's pretty amazing what you can do with some scissors, tape, a cardboard box, and some creativity.

This was a fantastic project that my daughter and I did together.  She has a store bought barbie doll house that she loves but she has accumulated more little girl and baby barbies recently and couldn't fit them all inside.  So, she wanted a playhouse for the "barbie kids."

We decided to make one ourselves as we got out our craft box with all kinds of scraps of material, stickers, and felt and then we began to cut and glue.  It was a lot of fun for her to be able to design everything the way that she wanted the beds and the wall art to look.  She even picked out a refrigerator from a magazine to glue on.  We also had some extra doll furniture we used but the couch, kitchen table, and beds we made out of cardboard.

The options are endless for a project like this and if an adult was doing this solo they could really get crafty and detail oriented.

Make your own Thankful Thanksgiving Tree

Last year we made a different thankful tree (see here).  It was more of a calendar and I modeled it after one I saw in the Pottery Barn catalog.  This year we started a "thankful tree" with a basket full of blank colored leaves next to it.  Every day my daughter has filled one leaf out with a thankful thought she has.

This is a really simplistic project that the whole family can do.

I really like the white tree with the colorful leaves and living in Hawaii during Autumn requires a lot of indoor fall decor, so that we remember that it's not summer.  I'm also thinking that maybe for December we can do a scripture tree using the same base.

Paris Themed Birthday Party

Bonjour! Welcome to Paris....in Hawaii where we will feast on Pancakes (crepes didn't sound as good), quiche, play Parisian games, and relax by the beauty of the Eiffel tower!

These were good!

My daughter wanted a Paris theme for her birthday party.  Creating a Parisian atmosphere in Hawaii is an arduous task, especially when the setting is a tropical pool and in it's in the month of October.  Stores are filled with pumpkins and costumes not poodles and Eiffel towers.  Well, this complication actually caused me to get creative with my daughter and paint some backdrops.  We had pancakes and quiche and had fun painting using the pointillism technique.

This was a themed activity where the children had Q-tips and paint.  They had to paint something using dots like Georges Seurat did.  Then to expand on the artsy French idea we found mini paint sets to give out to everyone.  My daughter loves origami so we folded gift boxes for the paint sets.

You can buy them at ArtPlantae.  Visit ArtPlantae's website, where they bring botanical art, botany and its educational mission to life.

Mini Paint Box

Add a pocket palette to your nature journal kit. Eight paints and a mini paint brush fit inside this 2.5" snap-close palette.
Assorted Case Colors: blue, green pink, yellow.  This Art-to-Go item ships FREE.

Oh, and of course we played pin the tail on the poodle!  My daughter painted most of this.

Making this cake topper was probably the hardest task, but the exacto knife saved me.
Merci be coupe for stopping by!

Raw Almond Milk Easy Recipe

I made some almond milk today.  I have bought almond milk from the grocery store but it really doesn't compare to making it yourself.  The picture above is the almond milk I made with the almond pulp.  Sometimes I make a banana ice-cream with.  Then, another batch I strained to drink.  When you strain the milk you now have almond meal that you can dry and bake with.  It makes the best almond bread.  See recipe here.
Here is a healthy recipe for
Almond milk Recipe:

Ingredients
1 cup almonds (soaked)
4 cups water
optional
1/2 tsp of honey and/or vanilla to taste

Mix in your blender or Vitamix and blend until smooth.  Next, you can strain through a cheesecloth.
