Britax Frontier 85 Car Seat Review and Giveaway

**Contest has ended!
I have always used Britax car seats.  I buy them for their reputation of safety and because of their design.
My daughter is old enough now for a big girl  booster seat version, so we now have the new Britax Frontier 85 Combination Harness-2-Booster in our car.
It has a forward-facing five-point harnessed weight capacity up to 85 pounds with a 20 inch shoulder harness height. The seat also serves as a vehicle belt-positioning booster up to 120 pounds. Featuring True Side Impact Protection with one-hand adjustable harness height system and designed to be the safest high capacity seat in the industry. Loaded with comfort and convenience features, such as comfort foam, integrated cup holders and fixed armrests.

Features we like:

*The  5-Point Harness with 10 harness height positions (up to 20") and three buckle positions for a snug and secure fit as your child grows

*My daughter loves the armrests for their secure fit. But, her favorite part of the Frontier 85 are the Cup Holders.  She is so excited to put her drink in one and a snack in the other.
I was afraid she wouldn't think it was as comfortable as her cushy Britax Boulevard.  It appeared firmer and taller to me.  The second comment she made after the "cool cup holders" was how soft and comfortable it felt.  It has thick, underlying comfort foam that provides extra comfort, encouraging your child to stay in the proper position

*Energy-Absorbing Versa-Tether® features a staged-release tether webbing to slow the forward movement, reducing the crash forces reaching the child, and a two-point attachment to minimize forward rotation while anchoring the top of the child seat
*Harness Ultra Guard System (HUGS™) provides resistance to forward movement in the event of a crash
*Color-Coded Vehicle Belt Guides indicate the path and positioning of the vehicle seat belt
*Durable and Washable Cover.  This is a necessary feature.
*Energy-Absorbing Foam Liner (EPS) absorbs and distributes crash forces
*High Density Comfort Foam provides an extra layer of padding to gently cushion your child
*Harness-2-Booster converts to a belt-positioning booster seat
*Energy-Absorbing Base deforms in the event of a crash to absorb impact forces
*Made in the USA with global components
*Certified for Aircraft Travel in Harness Mode.  This is a bonus, since we are going to be taking a short flight next month. I am excited to try it out.

The Frontier 85 is the perfect and safest seat for children who are ready to graduate from their car seat to a booster seat.  I am thrilled with ours and would highly recommend it as a Mom's Best Bet for safety and design!
MSRP (USD) $279.99

Mickey Mouse Visits Hawaii

It is so much fun to watch Aulani come to Disney life each day and now there is only one year to go!
Mickey Mouse flew to Hawaii and is waving from a sand sculpture specially created to mark the date, August 29, when Aulani is scheduled to open in 2011. This 21-acre Resort with a 18,000-square-foot spa, two restaurants, Disney character breakfasts, a kids’ club (Aunty’s Beach House), a wedding lawn, and a stunning themed pool area with a wading pool, tube slides, sunset-facing hot tubs and a snorkel lagoon will provide memorable Hawaiian vacations for sure.  Read my review here.

Mickey looks excited and so are we!

Shabby Apple Mom and Daughter Dress Review

SHABBY APPLE!
Rosarita

Price: $66.00
I am a Shabby Apple fan.  Their designer dresses are my favorite, with their attention to detail and the modern woman in mind.

When it comes to buying clothing online, I think of the 3 f's:

Feel: How does it feel?
Fit: How does it fit?
Fabulous: Is it fabulous?
I really like dresses, they are so easy, comfortable, and feminine. A dress shop that does not compromise style or quality is Shabby Apple. I found them through their beautiful children's line, but then made my way to their women's dresses.
Their dresses are all very different but they all fit right in all the right places! They offer style advice for any questions you may have and features eight different body types to choose from so that you can find the right fit to flatter your shape. I like that when you purchase from Shabby Apple you are helping to support "couture with a conscious" that helps women worldwide and helps to fight global poverty.

This Rosarita dress has simple lines descending from a high-waist are contrasted with playful ruching just above the bustline creating an overall flattering silhouette. Flowing ruffles at the cap-sleeves and a sophisticated v-neck take this dress to a higher level of elegance. Made from a soft jersey blend and done in classic black, this dress is appropriate for any occasion.
Poly/Rayon/Spandex blend jersey fabric.

I am  loving my Rosarita dress
I am thrilled with my dress and it fits great.  My only concern was that it was a tad longer than I wanted, so I took it up a few inches and now it's perfect!
The best news: Sizing concern? Not the right dress for you? Return your dress and Shabby Apple will ship you a new dress for FREE!

My daughter modeling her stunning Queen of Hearts Dress
Queen of Hearts

Price: $39.00
Don’t get lost in Wonderland in this Queen of Hearts dress! Little girl’s dress with red and charcoal flowers over a light blue background combining color and print for originality that will steal your heart! This fashionable dress comes with patch pockets in the front and a snap button at the back of the neck. The fun print and the bunched sleeves make for adorable detail! The skirt hits mid-calf for coverage for even the most energetic ones. This print would look precious with some fun tights or bright-colored socks underneath!

I am even more thrilled with this little girl's dress.  It is just so unique and precious.  My daughter owns a lot of pink so it's a welcome change in her closet of cotton candy hues.
Dress is made from 100% Cotton.
Dress made by Addi & Kinsi.
SHABBY APPLE has impressed me again and is a MOM'S BEST BET for dresses!

New Balance is a Mom's Best Bet

Doing some sit ups while wearing my NewBalance 759 shoes

I have always been a fan of NewBalance for their weightless fit and support.  I was a bit weary of ordering a running shoe online without trying them on, since I am usually knee deep in shoes at the store, trying on every pair in my size.  But, I decided to try the popular 759 NewBalance running shoe.

It's built on the Acteva® Lite midsole with Stability Web® to provide a lightweight, supportive, well-cushioned ride. Perfect for a runner with a neutral gait, this shoe is packed with premium features, but still weighs in under 8.9 ounces.
Features:
N-ERGY® in the heel provides NB's most advanced shock absorption and cushioning
ABZORB® cushioning in the forefoot for exceptional shock absorption
ACTEVA™ LITE premium lightweight midsole provides optimal resistance to compression set - 24% lighter than standard foam
ABZORB® Strobel Board runs full length of shoe to maximize shock absorption and comfort
STABILITY WEB® delivers midfoot support and reduces the weight of the shoe
Dual Density Collar uses both a softer density foam against the foot for cushioning, and a firmer density foam for support
N-Durance® rubber compound for maximum outsole durability
Synthetic/Mesh upper provides lightweight comfort and support
Blown Rubber Forefoot for lightweight cushioning
Color: Silver with Dark Pink
Shoe Weight: 249 grams (8.8 oz)
Shoe Last: PL-1
When they arrived, I love the mesh look and attractive red lines on the side. After I laced them u, I walked outside to test them out. I couldn't believe that they not only the right size, but they were quite comfortable. I decided to put them to a more rigorous test and run two miles.  Yes, I was surprised because they felt great after the run, having enough cushion without feeling big or boxy. There was no pressure and these shoes were definitely lightweight.

The overall performance of this shoe made it a Mom's Best Bet!

A Class to Teach Your Child To Read

“Reading is a basic tool in the living of a good life.”

—Mortimer J. Adler

The Institute of Reading Development values the importance of reading by teaching children how to be successful at it. They have created reading development curriculum for all age groups (4 years old to adults) that integrates skills instruction and meaningful experiences with good books.

The institute is a summer program that offers classes once a week for 5 weeks. The focus is on gaining fluency and comprehension by reading appropriate books. The classes are held at Colleges, Universities, and sites all over the United States. It is a structured program that encourages students to develop skills, confidence, and a love of reading. Parents are also learning with their children and will receive guidance on how to support their child's success through their stages of reading,

These are the stages of reading:
STAGE 1: LEARNING TO READ

STAGE 2: DEVELOPING INDEPENDENT READING SKILLS

STAGE 3: READING WITH ABSORPTION

STAGE 4: CRITICAL READING

I had the opportunity to take part in this program with my daughter over the past few weeks. Each class starts out with phonics instruction, including independent and guided reading practice and through workbook and audio program exercises. Different levels of assistance for beginning readers are modeled for parents and then parents try out these techniques with their children.

Choosing books at the right level for a child is stressed. As a teacher, I have seen many of the problems starting out when children, parents, and teachers aren't able to select appropriate books. A Book-Level Recommendation and Booklist is given to each student after the teacher has individually heard them read and has made an assessment.

My daughter loved the pace of the class. They were able to read, play decoding games, complete workbook activities and even build comprehension and develop a love of reading by listening to books read aloud. Her favorite part was participating in book discussions and role playing.

My thoughts:
This class will teach you the foundation of how to help your child read on his/her own level.  Then, it is up to you to carry it out at home.  If you follow the program, then it will work and your child and you will feel success.  However, just attending the five classes is not enough to help your child to be an independent, successful, and thoughtful reader.

It is obvious that the Institute of Reading Development's curriculum is centered around books. I definitely recommend this summer program for parents and children to build skills, boost confidence and have a lot of fun reading! What a great way to start out the new school year. Registration for the 2011 summer classes will be advertised in the spring of 2011.

Casio Baby G Watch Review

My solar powered Baby G under the Hawaiian water diving for shells

I love the electric blue color of this watch
I am very picky when it comes to buying watches.  I can quickly spy and purchase a beautiful bracelet, but when it comes to buying a watch there is more to consider than just looks.  I use my sport watches for running, playing outside, swimming, and surfing.  I want it to be comfortable, easy to use, and of course stylish!  Let's add eco-friendly to the list as well.
You can find all of this in Casio's Baby G solar model watch.   Baby-G helps to make the environment a little more "green" by utilizing renewable energy and recycled packaging (how cool!) This new Tough Solar model is not only Eco-Friendly, it’s also smart. The watch has a power saving function to conserve battery power when left in the dark for some duration and has the ability to judge light levels, to know when to activate the Auto EL Backlight.
This is my TOP pick for a fabulous watch.  I have swam, surfed, ran, and even shopped wearing this baby blue and I couldn't be more pleased.  It is a Mom's Best Bet for $110.  Now that I have gone solar, I am hooked!
Eco-Friendly & Smart Tough Solar Power
Shock Resistant
200M Water Resistant
Shock Resistant
Low Temperature Resistant (-10 C/14 F)
Full Auto EL Backlight with Afterglow

Countdown start time setting range: 1 minute to 100 hours
4 Daily alarms and 1 snooze alarm
Hourly time signal
Full auto-calendar (pre-programmed until the year 2039)
Power saving function (turns of display when the watch is left in the dark)

My classy black Baby G with pink face, getting a tan!

This watch is Baby-G's black resin band with digital dial code and hot pink neon face.

This is a sleek, feminine, and classy watch that exudes style.  I have swam with it, but prefer to wear it when I am out because it's so beautiful.  It functions similar to the Baby G above but it's not solar powered, which is why it's my #2 pick.  However, I have received quite a few compliments on the look and and it is super comfortable.  My poor gold watch has just been sitting along in my jewelry box, completely neglected because I am now in love with my Baby G! This is also a Mom's Bets Bet for $130.
I am a new big fan of Casio's Baby G line!

Bumbo Baby Seat Giveaway

Have you seen this sweet seat before?  Your Baby’s first seat, the Bumbo Baby Seat, provides a seat to quickly set baby down, particularly when babies are old enough to hold their heads up. The Bumbo helps babies’ transition into sitting.

When my baby was learning to sit up independently, we would often have to prop her up with pillows and then after a few second, "plop" she would go in between them.  The only issue that I can find with Bumbo is that it's NOT a babysitter.  It should only be used on the ground with supervision. Otherwise, it's a great product and can be used with a tray for feeding as well.

The award winning Bumbo Baby Seat is cleverly designed to support your baby in comfort, allowing them to sit up independently. Made from a single piece of latex-free, low-density and lightweight foam, the Bumbo Seat provides a snug and comfortable environment for baby to sit up for feedings, play time or quality time with the family. The Bumbo Baby Seat requires no straps or fasteners to hold babies in place, and helps them transition into sitting. I think they are wonderful and will also make the perfect baby shower gift!

They come in blue, lilac, aqua, pink and lime green and they are recommended for babies 3-14 months

*Requires no straps or fasteners
*Durable, hygenic and easy to clean
*Portable, light weight and versatile

Bunny Prints Giveaway

Correspondence nowadays is usually through email, a cell phone call, Skype, or facebook.  But nothing says I care like a letter in the mail.
We love writing and receiving letters, especially my daughter.  She sends her relatives and friends the cutest handmade cards.  But, I have been on the lookout for her own "girly" address labels.  She always asks me why our labels don't have her name on it.  Voila!  Bunny Prints contacted me and they have not only the sweetest kids labels but invitations, thank-you cards, party favors, personalized t-shirts and much more.
We received some sheets of the pink ballerina labels with her name and address.  She has been pretty excited that she asks to write letters more often.  Isn't that great that she is initiating wanting to spell and write in sentences because she is motivated by the act of writing a letter.  I definitely encourage her and hope that she never stops writing letters!

Bunny Prints has some great prices and they are quick to respond to your requests.  They also offer free samples!!

Bunny Prints is offering one Mom's Best Bets reader a chance to win their very own address labels!

Aurora is known for their stuffed animals. They sell bears, turtles, otters and many others, including an all natural line. They are Eco friendly and green plush made from 100% soy fiber.

American Girl Shine On Now Doll Winner

Yea! Shine On Now was a SUCCESS! With your support American girl gave $1 million in clothing, books, dolls, and money to 4 great charities!!!
There were so many wonderful entries for this giveaway. It it is touching that all of your little ones are involved with volunteering and giving back in their communities. I enjoyed reading all of your comments.

The winner for the American girl doll is:

Tamara #25 chosen by random.org

She wrote:

"Our family tries to stay pretty busy in our community! My husband and I try to be good examples of service to our kids. I spend between 10-15 hours a week at their school helping in their classrooms or wherever in the school needs help. I find it very rewarding to help kids who otherwise don't get much help! We also put together hygiene kits to send to Haiti and donated them to the school. Over the winter my daughters and I made cloth dolls and doll clothes for a lady who goes to an orphanage in Africa every year. My kids were so excited to be helping out other little girls just like them! We give money to our church, which them provides food and clothes to local people in need. My youngest daughter is 4 and loves to go to the nursing home and help. We have gone with our church a couple times and I played piano for them to sing to. My daughter would go sit on their laps and always came home excited about meeting a new "grandma". I want my kids to learn to find joy in helping others. I am so excited that American Girl is creating an opportunity for girls to help out!"
