Organic Fruit Basket

Smart consumers know the advantages of eating certified organic fruit. Now you can show how much you care by sending an organic gift basket from ProFlowers.com.

I think a basket of fresh organic fruit is a healthy and thoughtful gift for just about any occasion -- from birthdays and house warming celebrations to thank you and business gifts.

I was so impressed with my Organic Extravaganza that was delivered to my door. It was beautifully packaged and every fruit (yes, all 12!) were individually wrapped. Each fruit was perfect with out any blemishes or bruising. I received pears, apples, oranges kiwi, avocados and grapefruit. They were all ready to eat, except the pears, which needed a few days to ripen. It was lovely to have 12 beautiful organic fruits to display. Well, actually my "display" didn't last long. I had lots of helpers eager to sample. They were all sweet and delicious too!

ProFlowers works directly with growers to ensure that each piece of fruit in our organic collection has been certified as organic. As with all of our gourmet fresh fruit gifts, all ProFlowers organic fruit is picked at exactly the right time to arrive fresh and juicy anywhere in the U.S. Ordering fruit delivery and gourmet gifts online is easy. ProFlowers has a large selection of fresh seasonal and organic fruits for fast U.S. delivery.
Organic Extravaganza:

2 Certified Organic Bartlett or D'Anjou Pears
2 Certified Organic Fuji or Gala Apples
2 Certified Organic Navel Oranges
2 Certified Organic Kiwi
2 Certified Organic Avocados
2 Certified Organic Grapefruit
What a wonderful gift to give. I certainly enjoyed my gift:)

Calcium Supplements

I just read on NPR that "Before you pop that calcium supplement, you might want to talk to your doctor. A new analysis out in the British Journal of Medicine says calcium supplements may increase the risk of heart attack by 30 percent."

We all need calcium but getting enough calcium from your diet is very difficult. A whole foods supplement might be worth looking into. It's natural and a more absorbable calcium form for your body. This is why I take New Chapter and Garden of Life Vitamins and calcium supplements.

I also took the Grow Bone challenge and highly recommend it!

Disney Aulani: A Hawaiian Experience

I recently had the magical opportunity to be a part of the media's first glance of Disney's brand new Aulani Resort, on Oahu. We went on a "hard hat" tour of this Ko'Olina resort that is due to open August 29 2011.

We all know Disney and their amazing ability to inspire awe and excitement at their theme parks, cruise line, hotels, and media. But, Aulani takes Disney's magic to a whole new level through education and cultural awareness.

The word Aulani means: "One who delivers a message from a higher authority." So what is this message and who is delivering it? The messenger is Disney and the message is authentically, truly Hawaiian.

Being a Kamaaina and having taught in the Hawaiian school system, I have a love for the culture and the people of Hawaii. The spirit of "Aloha" is contagious and this atmosphere is unlike anywhere I have ever traveled. I am thoroughly impressed that Disney isn't just building a resort on Hawaii's land but they are truly fostering an appreciation for the Hawaiian culture and values. I have learned over the past few days that Disney wants Hawaii to shine along with Hawaii's artists, traditions, and language.

Aulani is a gateway to allow you and your family to experience Hawaii.

Disney has truly done their homework. There is a tremendous attention to detail in making their gardens, art work, draperies, bedding, mats, and architecture all authentically Hawaiian. When you walk in the entry hall known as Makala (open your eyes and look), the Hawaiian art, story telling, and fauna will transform you to a traditional, yet modern paradise.

Hawaiian Kapa
They have commissioned local and talented artisans such as Rocky Jensen, McD Philpots, Solomon Enos, and Dalani Tanahy to adorn their rooms and resort with local artistic elegance.
The Waikolohe valley (mischievous waters) will create curiosity and joy with it's waterfalls, rocks, and spouting waters. Children can discover hidden menehune and also will be able to "talk story" or communicate their experiences here. Aunty's Beach House will be a warm and inviting kid's club where children can have fun and learn at the same time (warning: it looks like so much fun even parents will want to stay). Families can snorkel with Hawaiian fish, and adults can relax and enjoy the sunset in their cascades of Jacuzzis. Even their cocktail lounge will highlight the Hawaiian language by having everything right down to the coasters labeled in Hawaiian and the bartenders will be fluent in the language.
Talk about a unique experience!

The creativity and ingenuity of Walt Disney Imagineering is making Aulani a fantastic resort that will be filled with Hawaiian fun for the whole family. The resort will have two restaurants, Makahiki and 'AMA 'AMA, a fine dining experience.

“The story of the Makahiki Festival will come to life inside the restaurant in a series of elegantly composed, jewel-toned murals, which depict scenes of feasting, games and celebration,” said Joe Rohde, Walt Disney Imagineer. And yes, Mickey and other Disney characters will be there donned in Hawaiian apparel to dazzle children at the Character Breakfast.

Aulani has already made a powerful impact on the community of Oahu. “During construction, the resort is expected to generate about 4,800 jobs and more than $600 million in economic activity. Upon reaching stabilized operations, the project will generate an anticipated 2,400 full-time jobs in Hawai‘i, of which approximately half will be located at our Aulani resort in Ko Olina."

Disney is also interacting with some local schools and getting children involved in creating the Children’s Digital Image Rainbow Project as well as maps for the visitors that will be displayed in the lobby. Djuan Rivers, the Vice President of Disney Vacation Club® and Resort, Hawai`i is committed to working with the community and to “green” the resort through the design and construction to include environmentally friendly initiatives.

Aulani will include a hotel as well as 481 two-bedroom equivalent Disney Vacation Club villas offering many of the comforts of home and provide plenty of space for families and extended families. Members and guests will delight in the amenities available in most vacation villas, including full kitchens, washers and dryers, separate living areas and more.

I knew that Disney would impress me with their design but what I am most excited to share with you is their sincere commitment to Hawaii. This premier oceanfront resort & spa is a place for families to gather, reconnect and immerse themselves in the stories of Hawai`i. A vacation at Aulani is a Mom's Best Bet!

Nightshades got you down?

I love vegetables, especially eggplant and tomatoes. They both belong to the nightshade family.

What Are Nightshades?
Tomatoes, white potatoes, bell peppers, hot peppers- chili and paprika, and eggplant are all part of the Nightshade Family. Also a part of this species is tobacco and some other toxic plants. Some nightshade plants have ingredients that are also found in narcotics.
What's the big deal?
Studies have found that nightshades contain high levels of alkaloids. High alkaloids can cause bones to excrete calcium and other minerals from the body. Studies have found arthritis symptoms in patients were lessened when eliminating nightshades from their diets.
Wait a second - aren't these fruits and vegetables good for you?
Yes, they are very good for you and they contain lots of vitamins and minerals. They also taste delicious but remember to be aware of your body. Too much of a good thing is not always a good thing. Moderation is key and most people have no reaction to eating nightshades. Talk to your doctor if you have arthritic symptoms or joint pain and your diet is high in these plants.

Organically Raised Cookbook Review

Organically Raised: Conscious Cooking for Babies and Toddlers

Anni Daulter's new book Organically Raised, Conscious Cooking for Babies and Toddlers shows parents how to prepare organic, pesticide free, and delicious recipes that their babies and children will love. From yummy purees for new babies to culinary delights for toddlers and children.
Most families are busy and in much need for some inspiration. For anyone who has felt challenged to come up with new and inventive ways to feed their children delicious and different dishes, this book is a great find. I also thoroughly enjoyed the bright and vivid photographs of the beautiful healthy children and all of the delicious food. The recipes are pretty easy to replicate, which I very much appreciate it as a busy mother.
Author Anni, who is a mother and professional cook, has received accolades from Gwyneth Paltrow, Gwen Stefani and Debi Mazar. She is also the owner of the baby food company, Bohemian Baby Fresh Organic Food.
I enjoyed how Anni shares what works for her family and the recipe preferences of her own children as well. It also discussed the nutritional value and benefits of eating organic foods. The "Mama and Papa Wisdom" sidebars share other parents real life experiences of cooking with their families; which was a nice touch.

“Organically Raised is the cookbook I wish I had when my first child was born! It explains the benefits of organic eating for young children and includes yummy recipes. When my next child starts solids I plan to keep Organically Raised in my diaper bag. That way I can ensure there are always healthy options to offer.”
—Gwen Stefani, musician and mommy to Kingston and Zuma

This is a recipe that my family has tried from the book. I actually added Mila (chia seeds) to it and some fresh kale from the farmer's market. I also used milk instead of the cream. It was wonderful!
"Bodhi’s favorite English broccoli and-cheese quick quiche
Makes 4 servings
Splash of olive oil
2 cups finely chopped fresh broccoli
1 small yellow onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 teaspoon sea salt
2 pinches of ground red pepper
1⁄2 teaspoon ground black pepper
3 eggs, well beaten
1 cup organic milk (or soy milk or rice milk)
1⁄2 cup heavy cream
1 unbaked pie crust (9-inch diameter)
1 teaspoon wheat germ
1 cup Cheddar cheese
1 cup mozzarella cheese
Preheat the oven to 350˚F.
Pour a little olive oil into a heated skillet. Add the broccoli, onion, garlic, salt, and red and black peppers. Cook, stirring frequently, until the broccoli is tender and the onion is browning and beginning to caramelize. Set aside.
Beat together the eggs, milk, and cream in a mixing bowl. When well mixed, add the wheat germ.
Place the broccoli mixture in the pie shell. Evenly sprinkle the Cheddar and mozzarella on top. Pour the egg mixture over vegetables and cheeses.
Bake for 40 minutes."

Prima Princessa: Ballet for Beginners Book

We love dancing, especially dancing ballet in our home. My four year old looks forward to Saturday mornings where she can Passé, Plié, and Chassé like Prima Princessa. We have reviewed Prima's DVD's and love them and now they even have a book out. This book is perfect for any beginning dancer.
The Prima Princessa’s Ballet for Beginners is a hard cover 80 page book full of clear and large photos depicting each move. The dancers are all from The School of American Ballet. My daughter loved to replicate the dance moves after I read them to her. Her favorite part was searching for Prima Princessa (the cartoon character) on each page and checking to see what color tutu she was wearing!
You can learn more about ballet and Prima Princessa here: www.PrimaPrincessa.com. You can buy this beautiful book for only $11.53 on Amazon.com or at Barnes and Noble.

So Excited about Lifemax MILA Superfood

I am very excited to tell you all about my new addition to my kitchen: a little chia seed called MILA!
WHAT IS CHIA?

For those of you that have never heard of chia, it's a seed. It was eaten by the Aztecs at the time of Columbus’s arrival. It has fewer carbs than rice, barley, oats, wheat, or corn and contains high amounts of calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, iron, zinc, and copper.

The Miracle Seed is gluten–free, trans–fat free, sugar–free, high in fiber and protein, has no taste or smell and can be deliciously combined with many foods! It's low in sodium, Its supreme biological properties are not diminished by heat in the baking process, therefore making it easy to incorporate into your favorite recipes.
WHY MILA?
Mila™ is a mixture of Salvia hispanica L. seed which has been carefully selected to maximize its nutritional value. The mixture is mechanically processed using a proprietary system that optimizes the bioavailability and increases its nutritional value. Nothing is added to the product – it is a pure form of Salvia hispanica L. and is simply the best available today.

WHY DR BOB ARNOT BACKS MILA?

MY REVIEW
Many of you may remember my Pualani giveaway a few weeks ago. I had the privelege of meeting Iwalani who owns Pualani Swimwear. Her energy and enthusiasm was contagious. When we were chatting about my review of her beautiful swimwear she offered me a glass of Mila mixed in water and said, "Here is a gift of health." After I drank it, she shared with me about this super food and Lifemax's mission to help bring Mila to impoverished people in Africa. I was inspired that I decided to have my family eat Mila everyday.
We all experienced increased energy and my husband's knee pain has decreased dramatically. When I don't take Mila my nails do not seem as hard and healthy and I am definitely hungrier. I love to mix it in brownies, sprinkle on salads and just drink it mixed in water. It is truly a staple of our diet now! (your pets will love it too)
Earn Money and Get Healthy!
Lifemax mission is to change the health and wealth of the world. I am thrilled to be part of this mission. You can too! Browse & enjoy my website where you will find videos on our miraculous product MILA, the Lifemax company and a business Overview. I invite those of you who are interested in trying this amazing super food to visit me today. There are also awesome opportunities to create a fun & dynamic business, so please contact me with any questions!

*Phthalate-free fragrance oils blended with essential oils

Each candle comes wrapped by hand in packaging made with recycled PCW materials. I was so impressed with how beautifully wrapped my Pikake candle was. But was even more noteworthy was the smell. It was hands down the most real Pikake fragrance I have found (even in Hawaii). I despise fake flower scents and was shocked how mild and authentic it was. I like the smell so much I am lobbying for a Pikake lotion! (for those who aren't familiar with Piake, it's similar to jasmine)

They are launching their new website following the redesign of their product lines. I am excited to see what the changes are, because they are already pretty fabulous.
If you are attending the California Gift Show in Los Angeles, stop by and visit them (July 16-19, 2010).

Dr. Hauschka's Lipstick and Radiant You

I love wearing makeup, not chemicals. It's sometimes hard to find quality makeup that is also natural. If you have been searching for a lipstick that stays on, smells great, and is on the natural side try Dr. Hauschka's brand. Dr.Hauschka's Skin Care is unique with a holistic approach.
Lipsticks
They have eight versatile shades with a natural finish. I like these lipsticks because they actually have bold colors and feel velvety-smooth.
Shea butter, rose hip and carrot extract keep lips moist and nourished.
Rose and Jojoba waxes soften and protect and the colors from nature highlight your natural tones
Dr.Hauschka was recommended to me by a makeup artist who works with Hollywood stars and also by Whole Foods. I chose their warm burgundy and have been receiving a few compliments already. I thought it was a strange compliment to receive about my lipstick shade, but it is a beautiful color.

Word World and Dive Olly Dive DVD Review

NCircle Entertainment has some very affordable, entertaining, and educational DVD's. We just watched Word World: Pirate Sheep and Dive Olly Dive: Under Pressure. We have never seen a Dive Olly Dive before but World World is a favorite in our house.

Word World: Pirate Sheep features 4 different shows and is about 1 hour long.
Pirate Ship
Superhero Sheep (our favorite)
Mail Mix Up
Wee Little Whale

Word World encourages pre-reading skills and phonemic awareness. It's also engaging and funny. My daughter likes the strong personalities given to each character. They usually learn to work together to build a word and to solve the problem. You can buy Word World: Pirate Sheep for 11.99 US$.

In Dive Olly Dive, Olly is the cute little yellow submarine that has adventures under the sea with his friends. Dive Olly Dive: Under Pressure is an hour long DVD that includes five adventure stories
Sub magnet
Pressure's On
Grandpa Claude
Doug's Apprentices

A Jelly Old Time

Teamwork and the the importance of friendship is emphasized. We liked these but they are dramatic and my daughter was a bit hesitant at first. After she saw them with me she really liked Olly.
You can buy Dive Olly Dive: Under Pressure for 11.99 US$.
