Memorial Day Salute!

Happy Memorial Day Everyone. The following is an email I received that sums up this day. Let us all honor those who have served and fallen for our freedom.

"I watched the flag pass by one day. It fluttered in the breeze.
A young Marine saluted it,and then he stood at ease.
I looked at him in uniform
So young, so tall, so proud,He'd stand out in any crowd.
I thought how many men like him
Had fallen through the years. How many died on foreign soil?
How many mothers' tears? How many pilots' planes shot down?
How many died at sea?How many foxholes were soldiers' graves?
No, freedom isn't free.I heard the sound of TAPS one night,When everything was stillI listened to the bugler play
And felt a sudden chill.I wondered just how many times
That TAPS had meant "Amen,"When a flag had draped a coffin
Of a brother or a friend.I thought of all the children,
Of the mothers and the wives,
Of fathers, sons and husbandsWith interrupted lives.
I thought about a graveyard
At the bottom of the seaOf unmarked graves in Arlington.
No, freedom isn't free."

Academy J Headband Review

Academy J is comprised of Sarah, Jessica, and Aimee - three BYU visual arts/education students. They design and create all of their beautiful headbands. These busy and talented girls are constantly coming up with new designs. Because of the handmade quality of their headbands, each one has the potential to differ slightly from the picture shown. They will even work with you personally on any custom orders you may have (weddings. bridesmaids etc). Academy J sent me this lovely black beaded headband to review. I liked that it was lightweight and sewn well. The beads were lovely and it has just a hint of sophistication and flair. I wasn't sure whether to keep it for myself or give it to my daughter but as you can see it is even cuter on curls!

MyChelle Foundation and Concealor Giveaway

MyChelle offers vegetarian and vegan options for all skin types

This line was developed for all skin types to balance, nourish and hydrate even sensitive skin by supporting the skin’s immune system. Their ingredients exhibit chiral properties that permit effective absorption at the cellular level. They are all non-toxic and plant based, which is how I found them one day at a health food store near me. They are preserved with essential oils, powerful antioxidants and exceptional antimicrobial extracts. This means no harmful chemicals that can be estrogen mimickers. There are no artificial coloring agents, parabens or fragrances in their formulas which is great news! MyChelle proudly support Medicine Horse Program's HopeFoal Project™, which rescues baby horses from the Premarin© hormone-production drug industry and raises these foals as therapy animals for troubled, at-risk girls.
Foundation
Since I have heard nothing but rave reviews about their skincare line, I was eager to see how their makeup products faired. MyChelle makes cream foundations that give you more coverage with a flawless dewy look. I love the therapeutic grape seed oil to nourish the skin. I have taken this with me several times in the past 2 weeks and just love how great it works with my skin. This is a glamorous foundation that is mess free and portable. Price: $25.89

Concealers
I also tried their concealer stick which complements the MyChelle cream foundation. It is also in a tube which makes it very convenient and I love the creamy, non-powder consistency. I think it works great around the eye area to brighten. It's
infused with l-lysine, and passionfruit extract that banishes everything from blemishes, uneven pigmentation, and dark circles. I also like that's it's only $12.99.

Buying Stylish Glasses Online

I am a big fan of buying glasses online. That may make some of you nervous when you cannot try them on first, but I have found it to be the 3 S's:

*Simple

*Stress free,

*Surprisingly Stylish.

When I buy prescription glasses online I pretty much already know what styles and colors I like and I stay in those parameters. In the picture above I am wearing tinted prescription glasses from JustEyewear.com. They are simple and black with some classy gold thin lines that accent the sides. They are comfortable and clear and sassy!

I received a wonderful complement a few days ago at Neiman Marcus. A woman who worked their asked me who made my sunglasses and shared with me how much she liked the sophisticated simple look of them. She also shared that she worked in their designer sunglasses department and was tired of seeing the flashy name brands written all over the glasses. She was shocked when I told her they were prescription glasses bought online at JustEyeWear.com that sells for only $50.00. Here she thought my $50.00 glasses looked more expensive then the $500 glasses she was selling!

JustEyewear offer 24/7 online support and shows you how to choose a frame that's right for you. All of their glasses are made in the U.S.A. by trained technicians. Every pair is made to ANSI Z80.1 Standards and is inspected 5 times before being sent to you. They also offer a no questions asked, 100% money back guarantee on every pair sold.
So how can they sell glasses as cheap as $19 a pair? Simple: low overhead, no large sales staff, expensive retail store, or trendy inventory to maintain. And so
Just Eyewear can pass those savings right on to you. I hope your next Eye Glasses buying experience was as quick, easy, and fun as mine.

Blessings and Eye Health!

Hawaiian Honu Love

This friendly Hawaiian turtle surprised me yesterday morning when I was taking some pictures of a humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa swimming by. He actually bumped my leg and then just looked up at me and hung out. Isn't he the cutest? I was able to snap a picture before he swam away probably in search of some seaweed.
Reminder: Hawaiian Green Sea turtles are Endangered Species in the Pacific Islands.

Korres Makeup and Skin Care Review

Korres makeup is a Mom's Best Bet! What most impresses me about this Greek skincare line is it's natural direction without the use of synthetic ingredients such as silicones, propylene glycol, petroleum, parabens, and many other unnecessary chemicals. They use Greek flora herbs and many food based ingredients. The packaging is stylish and the colors are brilliant. The newest Korres arrivals to Mommy's makeup drawer are:

Quercetin and Oak age-reversing night cream for younger and firmer and skin.
• Regenerative Oak Extract firms and plumps aging skin

Faber-Castell: Create Your Own Books!

Being a teacher and artist, I have always loved colored drawing pencils. I went through many Faber-Castell kits when I was young. Their drawing pencils and Premium Art Supplies for Professional Artists are well known. They even have Eco colored pencils now!

Faber-Castell has Creativity for Kid's Art Kits that encourage creativity. As a busy mother I love kits that include everything, except of course for your little one's imagination. It saves me time and it's so nice to open it up and have everything pre-cut, measured, and planned out. They have card making sets to wood craft and scrapbooks to glass painting. They seriously have hundreds of items to choose from and they are all so wonderful and creative.

My daughter has been interested in writing her own stories lately, so we chose their "Create Your Own Books" to try out. I love that on the box it says for ages 4-94. I agreed because I wanted to confiscate one of the books to make my own. It didn't work, so now I will have to buy my own kit!
You can write and illustrate the 2 blank books and create your own best seller. They are 2 high-quality hardcover books measure 8.25" x 11" and 6.25" x 8.25". The smaller book includes a die-cut frame. Insert your photo and write an "all about me" book. Includes story starter ideas and an assortment of Faber-Castell colored pencils, clip art, alphabet and number stickers.
These will make great gifts for your imaginative loved ones!

Boon is BPA-Free!

The Boon Potty Bench is modern, multi-functional, and a must have.Boon is an innovative company that makes products that are BPA-free, Phthalate-free, and PVC-free. You probably have seen their Frog Pod bath toy storage or their utensils.
Their Boon Potty Bench is another great item for potty training. It features two enclosed side storage spaces for organizing potty training supplies, and a pull-out drawer for easy sanitary clean-up. I like this because the child can take ownership of putting a special toy on the one side.

My favorite part about this potty seat is that once you close the lid it transforms into a sturdy stool that supports up to 300 lbs. The sleek, modern design includes a built-in toilet paper holder and a removable soft deflector shield. This child-friendly potty trainer is also extremely sanitary.

It Measures 7 1/8" H x 19 1/2" W x 12 7/8" D. Ages 18 months and up. You can buy the Boon Potty Bench at retailers across the US and online at Amazon for $29.99. It is worth the price for having a stool and potty in one. Not to mention, the great Modern look!

Zondervan Book Review and Giveaway

Happy Mother's Day! I love sharing good wholesome books with my daughter. I particularly like Zondervan books for their quality and unique ability to appeal to children and teach them more about being the person God created them to be.

The book, "Just Like You Beautiful Babies Around the World," by Marla Stewart Konrad and illustrated by Lin Wang is my top pick for a wonderful Mother's Day picture book.
"On the day you were born, God wrapped his gentle arms around the whole world."

Global families form the centerpiece of this heartwarming story that reminds us of the universal bonds between loved ones. We may be different but a mom's love is strong and true and the encompassing embrace of God’s love is even stronger!

Here are just a few more of the many great books Zonderkidz has to offer:

These books about David are my daughter's favorite!
This level-one reader is a sweet story about a mouse whose life parallels that of David the shepherd and king. We also read and love,"Little David Sings for the King" and "Little David's Brave Day." These are simple stories but a great way to teach young ones how to read and enjoy some great bible stories.
Well, we instantly liked this alphabet book because my daughter's favorite letter is "K." K Is for Kite God's Springtime Alphabet By: Kathy-jo Wargin Illustrated by: Kim Gatto. It's a is a bright and beautifully written alphabet picture book celebrating the newness of God’s springtime and all the beauty it brings.

For ages 9-12 there are some heartfelt books, such as Never Blame the Umpire, by: Gene Fehler that features Kate, an 11 year old girl struggling to find joy when tragedy strikes her close-knit family.
Last DanceBook is a book in the popular series: Carter House Girls By: Melody Carlson. Melody Carlson has written more than 200 books for teens, women, and children. Girls ages 13-16 will like the contemporary writing style with underlining spiritual aspects.
“Fresh, vivid and attention-grabbing. These stories touch the heart and illuminate the mind” — --Max Lucado, Pastor and Bestselling Author
"Jesus loves everyone … his close friends … the grown-ups that listen to him teach about God … but he especially loves little children." I love the concept but I have to say that I am not a fan of the harsh words and crazy illustrations. The illustrations are bright and attention getting. Also the sentence structure is strong and captivating, but it reminded me far too much of Beavis and Butthead (of which I'm not a fan) so therefore I do not care for this series.

The Long Ride Home is a book by Marsha Hubler about a foster girl who sets out on a journey to know more about her biological family. This is only one of the books in the series. If your child loves horses, then they will love Keystone Stables horse adventures.
The true-life story of how a boy from Brazil became the FIFA World Player of the Year written by Jeremy V. Jones. Kaká is arguably the greatest soccer player in the world, but he was once the smallest boy in his class. His life is an example of character, perseverance, commitment, and faith. When he suffered a crippling injury doctors told him he would never play again. Through faith and perseverance Kaká recovered, and today he plays in front of thousands of fans every year. As the 2007 FIFA World Player of the Year and winner of the Ballon d’Or, this midfielder for Real Madrid has become one of the most recognized faces on the soccer field.

Stop Chlorine with The Bath Ball Faucet Filter

I have had quite a few comments asking me about water purity and what filters are a good deal. I have done some research and have a lot of opinions and thoughts about safer water. I will be writing more about this subject in the weeks to come, but for today let's focus on bath water. No one wants to relax in a tub full of chlorine, right? Did you know that chlorine can destroy intestinal flora and it's stored in the fatty tissues of the body. Chlorine has also been shown to suppress immune system function.
You can prevent this nasty chemical from negatively affecting your body chemistry by simply attaching the Gaiam Bath Ball Faucet Filter under the tub faucet. Say goodbye to chlorine and it’s effects: brittle hair, dry skin, burning eyes and lungs. Water flows into openings in the top as the KDF filter media (a high-purity copper/zinc formulation) releases water that's 95% chlorine-free.
*Removes Chlorine up to 20,000 gallons
*Reduces lead and other contaminants
*Softens Water
*Unique Patented Bacteroistatic Media

I felt a difference immediately using this bath filter. I actually never noticed the chlorine smell before (I guess I was just too used to it) but now I can smell the difference if I don't use the filter. My bath water leaves my skin feeling so much smoother and less dry. I feel much better using the bath ball, especially for my daughter. Every one's faucet is shaped differently so each bath ball will hang slightly different. My faucet wasn't shaped like the one in the picture; however, it still works great. Who needs extra chemicals soaking in your skin? This is so affordable and easy. The filter only needs to be replaced every year.

The Gaiam Bath Ball Faucet Filter is a Mom's Best Bet for safer water! How did I go so long without it? You can buy it on Amazon.com and on Gaiam's website.

Have you had your Eye Exam?

Do you wear eyeglasses? Eye health can often be neglected, but proper eye care is crucial to protect your sight and to prevent common eye disorders.
I wear prescription glasses, but I have been more aware of the damaging effect of UV ray exposure to the eye. Other risk factors include smoking, excess weight, unhealthy diet and lack of exercise.

Whether or not you wear glasses or have vision problems, it's important to know your family's health history and to know what eye diseases such as glaucoma that you can have checked and take steps to prevent.

It has been estimated that three-quarters of blindness and vision loss is either preventable or treatable. So, visit your eye doctor and practice a healthy lifestyle. Also, protect your eyes from injury when doing certain sports and activities. If you need or wear glasses, check out Glassesusa.com where you can buy your glasses online. They have some wonderful styles and unbeatable prices! Glassessa.com is offering 10% off any purchase of eyeglasses with the code Blog10.

It can be worn with a long or short sleeve shirt, with a fabulous pair of Mari Mac ruffle or flare leg pants, jeans or tights!! It is absolutely beautiful and perfect for some sweets at the ice cream parlor and English Tea Room!

Welcome to Mari Mac Kids! They have the most FANTASTIC handmade children's clothing. I instantly fell in love with Mari Mac Kids beautiful fabric choices.

Mari Mac Kid's clothing are featured and sold through their Etsy shop. Rachel is the creative sewer, owner, and mother behind Mari Mac Kids. Her sewing talent has always been a great creative outlet, but in recent years it has become a passion! I completely agree with Rachel that fabric is fabulous and it's just not possible to have too much fabric!

When I received my daughter's dress in the mail, I was very impressed how the dress was displayed with a thin black ribbon tied around it and a lovely note with washing and care directions. The dress was very well made and the tea cups and sweets were more lovely in person than pictured. My daughter loved the print and I just marvelled at the quality of this dress and how well it washes.
