You Are What You Breathe

We breathe all the time, all day long. We breathe approximately 17,280 breaths in a day (on average, depending on activity level). But what are we breathing? Sometimes city traffic fumes, smoke, or other contaminants. Our bodies tell us automatically that this air smells bad and it's not good for us. Our reaction is to get away from the toxic smell.

But what happens when we are indoors and the air smells fine? Is it fine? Research shows there are many sources of indoor air pollution in homes and workplaces. People spend most of their time indoors. So, what can we do about it?

NASA and ALCA did a study where they tested 19 different common houseplants for their ability to remove pollutants from the air. The good news is the plants did a great job cleaning up the air quality. Having plants in your home or workplace will add Feng Shui to the space, look beautiful, sometimes smell nice, and make you healthier!

The recommended plants for your home are below:

1. Philodendron scandens `oxycardium',
2. Philodendron domesticum, elephant ear
3. Dracaena fragrans `Massangeana',
4. Hedera helix, English ivy
5. Chlorophytum comosum, spider plant
6. Dracaena deremensis `Janet Craig',
7. Dracaena deremensis `Warneckii',
8. Ficus benjamina, weeping fig
9. Epipiremnum aureum, golden pothos
10. Spathiphyllum `Mauna Loa', peace lily
11. Philodendron selloum, selloum philodendron
12. Aglaonema modestum, Chinese evergreen
13. Chamaedorea sefritzii, bamboo or reed palm
14. Sansevieria trifasciata, snake plant
15. Dracaena marginata , red-edged dracaena
